A man was found dead inside a tent along Fort Pitt Blvd after Pittsburgh Police and EMS responded to reports of a suspected overdose on Dec. 13. A caller reported an unresponsive male at 9:53 am and stated that they were performing CPR.
When medics arrived, they took over and attempted life-saving measures but were unsuccessful. The man was pronounced dead at the scene just minutes after the 911 call.
First responders discovered him in a downtown area currently occupied by many homeless individuals living in tents.
The Medical Examiner's Office identified the body as a 27-year-old man from Mckeesport. The initial report from the coroner does not have a cause and manner of death listed.
"What normally happens is the Medical Examiner will release a second report with a cause and manner of death once their examination is complete," said police spokeswoman Cara Cruz.
"During this time, Pittsburgh Police will continue their investigation into his death, which was dispatched as a suspected overdose, per the 9-1-1 caller who attempted CPR," Cruz added.
